Where has Ngilu been?..........Wait for it…..

Where has Ngilu been?..........Wait for it…..

Fri. July 7th 2012 - Water Minister Charity Ngilu is set to graduate in a few weeks to come after a long secret period of studying at St Paul’s University.

The Minister has been pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in leadership and management which she completed recently only awaiting graduation.

This comes after president Kibaki denied to ascent to a bill that sought to block non -degree holders from vying for president, governor and Member of Parliament positions.

The bill was going to make short political careers of many parliamentarians if it went through.

The Kitui Central MP said that she had satisfied the tutors and now she is just waiting for her graduation ceremony slated in a couple of weeks to come. Even though she has met the qualifications, she expressed revulsion at the bill that needed one to have a degree in order to hold a position for president, governor and MP.

She stated that academic papers should not be the basis for determining one’ leadership ability and history has shown that already. She said that in her time as a parliamentarian she has seen Ministers holding degrees showing incompetency in their job while on the other hand seen ministers without degree perform exemplarily in their work.

She insisted that performance is all that matters rather than degree qualification. The minister had shunned publicity in the recent past saying that she had been busy concentrating on her studies.

Mrs. Ngilu has always been close to the Prime Minster, Raila Odinga whom she owes her cabinet position to. She had last week hosted guests at her home in Kitui for a memorial service for her late husband, Mwenda Ngilu.
