SPOTTED: Kantai and Other "Lost" Artistes
Last week, the MCSK Special General Meeting at the Bomas of Kenya. At the well attended event, elected officials were confirmed. It was one of the largest gatherings of music artistes in the country drawing from the mainstream contemporary and, vernacular and River Road artistes, the upcoming and established.
An interesting thing, though, was the presence of artistes we haven't really heard from in years or those who have just kept a low profile. Apart from Habib, one half of the Habib na Manga duo was spotted hanging out with Big Pin.
Mr. Lenny of the Juju fame also made an appearance at the event. He shot to fame in the early 2000s with Cash Money and later Wasee wa Githurai with Mr. Googz and Vinnie Banton. The run of popular songs didn't end there. He later collaborated with Kunguru on Baby Don' Go and African Woman. He reached his peak featuring on Nameless' Juju.
At least we saw Mr. Lenny in an interview earlier this year. Interesting to note was that Kantai was there. He has probably kept the lowest profile of them all, there was even a rumor about his whereabouts some time back. Kantai entered the music scene in the mid-2000s after coming back from the U.S. where he had unsuccessfully tried being a rapper. He blew up in Kenya with the track Kantai GHappy with STL and Haters with Jahmani.
Maybe these artistes are planning a comeback considering that they are still interested in industry matters. We'll just have to wait and see.
