Four guards were killed in Homa Bay town in the early hours of Monday following an armed robbery at a supermarket.
The bodies of three guards, employed by Luore security firm, were found with their throats slit and huddled together outside the supermarket.
The fourth guard, who was reportedly responding to a distress call from the supermarket, died after being hit with a blunt object on the head.
His body was found lying 20 metres from the supermarket.
The supermarket's proprietor said the robbers stole the weekend's sales on approximately Sh 1.5 million.
They also took away mobile phones on display, a television set and four DVD machines.
