Mother in agony over missing daughter
A Nairobi businesswoman is living in fear after people believed to have abducted her daughter threatened her. Beatrice Adhiambo has been unable to leave her house after the threats, sent through calls and text messages persisted. She suspects her daughter's abductors are behind the threats. Her daughter Stacy Aghatha Akinyi, 19, has been missing since June 8.
A special team of investigators from the flying squad has been formed to trace her. Adhiambo said her daughter was headed to Parklands Sports Club to train for hockey when she went missing. Head of flying squad Munga Nyale confirmed that the special team has indeed been put in place. Adhiambo yesterday narrated her ordeal since her only child's kidnapping. She said she has fallen into depression since the kidnapping.
Adhiambo said she has searched for Akinyi in mortuaries and hospitals. Adhiambo said investigators have told her that the search has become complicated because her daughters attackers had not asked for ransom and Akinyi’s mobile phone number cannot traced. Detectives from the flying squad last Friday arrested some suspects in Rongai who are said to have called Akinyi's phone before she went missing. Adhiambo said someone deposited money in her M-Pesa account a day before Akinyi went missing. She suspects that the Sh50 transferred from the agent directly to her mobile phone was a tactic by criminals to establish her name. A week ago police visited Lanet where the girl was reported but did find her.
