He is a Kenyan legend even in England

Fri. July 7th 2012 - The legend of the tracks, Kipchoge Keino yet again added another tag to his rich profile of accolades when he was given the Freedom of the City of Bristol award.

The ward was given based on his contribution and achievements in the Olympics world.

Lord Mayor Peter Main led the ceremony and welcomed Dr Keino and other Kenyan representatives in Bristol City.

He said it was an honour to have Keino in their midst and the Kenyan team training in their City.

Kipchoge said that it was his deepest appreciation to the City of Bristol for bestowing upon him such a great honour. He said that the award not only recognises his efforts and achievements as an athlete but such a great honour to his country Kenya.

Keino expressed his appreciation to the High Commissioner Ephraim Ngare and his team, who laid out a great welcome and reception for Team Kenya at the United Kingdom.

Kipchoge gave a wonderful speech that was cheered, and given a standing ovation upon his last word.

The award comes a few days after another honour which saw Kipchoge entered into the IAAF Hall of Fame.
