  • Presidential hopeful says the process should be done in a transparent manner
Narc-Kenya presidential aspirant Martha Karua on Sunday called for fresh biometric voter registration kits tendering.
Ms Karua said the process should be done in a transparent manner.
The presidential candidate blamed “power brokers” on both sides of the government for the tender row, saying, they were determined to manipulate the process for their own benefit.
“We want to see all the evaluations and technical issues coming up and the reasons why they (Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission) have settled on one company and not the other,” she said.
On the election date, Ms Karua, criticised politicians for violating the Constitution.
“I know of elections in December. Anything beyond that is unconstitutional and we are waiting to hear what the Court of Appeal will say. Anybody, even a school child, will tell you that five years since we were elected end this December. Elections should be within these five years,” she said.
Ms Karua, who is also the MP for Gichugu, asked Kenyans to judge presidential candidates based on their track record and their capabilities.
Speaking at St Peter’s ACK Church in Kahawa Sukari, Ms Karua described the Democratic Party presidential aspirant, the Rev Mutava Musyimi, as a worthy competitor and a friend.

“Being a woman has never been an issue. Let my gender be my competitor’s agenda and I am putting myself out there to be judged on the basis of my record,” she said.
The Rev Musyimi, on the other hand, insisted that elections must be held in March next year and hoped that IEBC will put its act together to ensure a more transparent tendering process.
Mr Musyimi, who is the MP for Gachoka, said that Kenyan politics was driven by how much money one has and whether the candidates can be able to mobilise the community.
