Deputy Prime Minister
Uhuru Kenyatta took his campaign to Gusii land where he castigated the
country’s political leaders for contributing to the problems citizens are
facing.
Speaking in Nyamira
County on Sunday Uhuru blamed senior politicians for making elections “a matter
of life and death” thus instigating acts of political violence.
He claimed the 2007 post-election chaos was a
result of refusal by some politicians to accept defeat, something that had
intensely affected the county’s development four years ago.
“The problems that citizens continue to face are just but a
creation of poor leadership. Kenyans are suffering but no single leader has
come out to provide solutions,” said Uhuru.
He called on all presidential aspirants to avoid verbal attacks on
each other and concentrate on selling their development agenda. “It should stop
so that we give Kenyans direction that could alleviate poverty and end their
suffering,” he said.
He received a warm reception from residents who hope that The
National Alliance party leader will declare Foreign Affairs Minister Prof Sam
Ongeri his running mate ahead of the March 2013 poll.
TNA received a boost in their bid to galvanise support in the
region when Ford People announced it could work with Uhuru’s party.
“We will join hands with you to ensure that you claim presidential
victory,” said Ford People’s National Chairman Henry Obwocha.
Uhuru said TNA would champion for the rights of the youth by
encouraging them to engage in small businesses in the respective counties so
that they are actively participate in building the economies of their devolved
governments.
strategy
He said the youth have for long been used for political violence
and encourage them to join the party and seek elective positions through TNA.
He said the party was working on a strategy to strengthen the
party from the grass root where he said the upcoming party nominations in
August would be free and fair.
Prof Ongeri called for unity among the Gusii
community saying Uhuru’s tour to the region was just the beginning of big
things to come.
“We will reject people with the agenda of dividing the Gusii
community. It is through Uhuru that we will get a fair share of the national
cake since I am confident he would carry the day come the General Election,”
said Ongeri.
Uhuru addressed rallies at Ekerenyo grounds, Kebirigo market,
Nyamira town and later in Kemera and Magombo in Kitutu Masaba. Today similar
rallies will be held across Kisii County.
