Shun ethnic based rallies, says Kalonzo

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka has called on presidential aspirants to desist from running their election campaigns like a contest between one ethnic group and another.
He asked aspirants to campaign on a national platform and stop defining their opponents by their ethnic background.
The VP urged all aspirants to sign the peace charter as a sign of their commitment and asked politicians to prepare to win or lose.
Mr Musyoka was opening a Conference on Community Tensions, Dialogue and Peace Building at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi.
The two day conference is organised by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, Coventry University, University of Nairobi and the British Council and other stakeholders.
Cohesion commission chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia asked Kenyans to refrain from amplifying small disputes among ethnic groups or individuals since they may lead to to conflict.
He urged all peoples to be tolerant and live peacefully to avoid a repeat of the 2007/08 post poll violence.
Present was Home Affairs PS, Dr Ludeki Chweya, Prof Henry Mutoro of Nairobi university, Prof Mike Hardy, VC Coventry University and Mr Mutuku Nguli of the British Council.
