Kenya Diaspora investment conference preparations in top gear

The Kenya High Commission in London is finalizing preparations for the Kenya Diaspora investment conference scheduled to take place in London later this month.
The new Diaspora Policy will be unveiled at the conference scheduled to take place on July 28 at Church House Conference Centre in Westminster, London.
The conference is part of a series of events organised around the ‘Kenya House’ meant to take advantage of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
A high level Kenyan Government delegation will unveil the eagerly awaited Diaspora policy which highlights investment opportunity areas in Kenya for the Diaspora Kenyan community.
Kenya is setting up ‘Kenya House’, at East Thames Building in West Ham Lane, Stratford, close to the Olympic site, to showcase the country’s unique culture, sports, art and other developments.
Speakers lined up to address the Diaspora community include chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Ahmed Isaack Hassan, Brand Kenya Board Chief Executive Officer Mary Kimonye, and Kenya Vision 2030 Director General Mugo Kibati.
Together with industrialist Manu Chandaria, they will steer a session on economic outlook and potential investment opportunities in Kenya today.

Participants will also have an opportunity to network during the event. Foreign Affairs Minister Prof Sam Ongeri will lead the delegation from Kenya which includes Housing Minister Soita Shitanda expected to talk about investment in the real estate, property and housing sector.
According to the High Commission in London, the aim of the event will be to inform the audience on the country’s new constitution and the prime sectors ready for investment for the Diaspora.
“Critically, it will go on to give practical information on how to invest, and how Kenya hopes to use the knowledge and skills of its impressive Diaspora to further its economic and social development,” a notice on the same says.
The organisers say the programme is designed to be fully interactive with ample opportunity for networking and Q&A.
The High Commission is headed by Mr Ephraim Ngare. His deputy Ms Jackline Yonga is expected to steer the session on rolling out the Diaspora Policy.
The High Commission in London says the event will go on to give practical information on how to invest, and how Kenya hopes to use the knowledge and skills of its impressive Diaspora to further its economic and social development.
Other speakers expected to address the conference are the ICT Board chief executive officer Paul Kukubo, the Capital Markets Authority, the Nairobi Stock Exchange, representatives from the private sector.
World Bank Africa Region Vice President Dr Mokhtar Diop and Ms Laura Thompson, Deputy Chair, International Organization on Migration are also among those scheduled to speak at the conference.
Kenya Commercial Bank Chief Executive Officer Martin Oduor-Otieno is scheduled to unveil the KCB Group Diaspora proposition.
