Two ODM lawmakers who have defected to another party were on Thursday last week spotted patiently seated in the waiting room of Prime Minister Raila Odinga's office. The two, who hold government positions in the executive, had been trying to reach out to the PM to spare them the chop in the looming reshuffle. One of the MPs is said to be going through tough financial times and was recently seen borrowing money from an equally broke ODM Cabinet minister.

Still on the Prime Minister Raila Odinga, we are told that his campaign secretariat and the Orange party have gone on overdrive to mitigate the impact of the autobiography of his former adviser Miguna Miguna. We have learnt that the PM’s handlers have or are in the process of hiring experts in crisis management to deal with the revelations contained in the book which is scheduled to be released this week. The PM’s handlers have already read the book and are said to be ready to deal with any eventuality.

A director at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is understood to have sent out stern warning letters to fellow directors including the boss — the Chief Electoral Officer — warning them against leaking "confidential" information to the media. The letters follow the publication of an article in the Star revealing details about the delay in awarding a tender for electronic voter registration and the infighting among the commissioners and senior staff over the same. The Public Procurement Oversight Authority has reportedly taken an interest in the matter and might soon start asking questions about the tendering process.

Kenyans in London will be flocking to the Royal Institute for International Affairs, also known as Chatham House, today at 5.30pm. Salim Lone, former spokesman for Prime Minister Raila Odinga, will be talking about the next election and Kenya's relations with the USA and UK. The diaspora is hoping that some juicy titbits may emerge about the December 27, 2007 election and indeed about the forthcoming 2013 elections.
