YES MEETING

Prime Minister Raila Odinga Wednesday held a joint meeting with Members of Parliament, and a section of Nairobi politicians to plan for the Yes rally scheduled for Saturday at Uhuru Park.

During the meeting also attended by former MPs and a number of parliamentary aspirants and activists from Nairobi province , the PM emphasized that the upcoming Yes rally and subsequent ones must not be used to promote any political party or individual politicians.

Leaders at the meeting emphasized that the Yes campaign presents a rare opportunity to bring the country together.

Odinga called on the Nairobi politicians to move with speed and mobilise people for the rally to set the tone for the rest of the country.

"We need to make the statement that the country is on the path to Yes and the tone must be set from Nairobi," the PM said.

"The ‘Yes' team must be one united outfit. We don't want people to come there to heckle some leaders and promote others. Everyone must feel welcome so that we move forward as a seamless organization. The emphasis must be that this is not a party issue. We must move in the spirit that whoever is not against us is for us. Anyone saying ‘Yes' is for us," he added.

Those who attended the meeting include MPs Simon Mbugua, Fred Gumo, Ferdinand Waititu, Rachel Shebesh, Elizabeth Ongoro and Henry Kosgey.

Others were immediate former Makadara MP Mr Dick Wathika, former Makadara MP Ruben Ndolo and former Starehe MP Mr Maina Kamanda.

Cabinet Minister Beth Mugo, the Dagoretti MP, was out of the country but detailed councillors from her constituency to team up with the group.

Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru sent apologies as she was committed in court.

"This is an opportunity we have not had in a long time. It is a rare opportunity for us to bring our country together," Mr Kamanda said.

The PM asked the Nairobi leaders to meet on their own and lay ground for the rally.
