MOMBASA, Kenya, May 28 - Veteran radio personality Tony Msalame died early Friday at his Sheki FM studios in Mombasa.
The legendary broadcaster, famed for his ‘Sheki Legi’ radio show on Metro FM in the late 90s and early 2000 lived in Nyali Mombasa, next to his studios.
"He developed chest pains in the morning and passed on moments later. We suspect a heart attack," a close family member said.
Mr Msalame was among legendary broadcasters who have reigned the Kenyan airwaves since independence. Prior to venturing into private media ownership, Mr Msalame had worked for many years in the advertising industry.
An accomplished radio presenter, Mr Msalame will also be remembered for popular radio quiz show - "Zum Zum kipindi cha kuongeza maarifa” on KBC radio that he co-hosted with Tido Mhando.
He is survived by, among others, Capital FM news anchor Grace Msalame.
