NATIONAL PRAYERS

President Kibaki is this morning expected to officiate over the national prayer breakfast.

Leaders have been invited to the annual event organised by the parliamentary and leadership prayer group that will revolve around the topic "One nation, one people".

National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende will address the meeting, which is being held for the eighth time at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

Unlike last year, when Parliament invited an external speaker, local leaders will address today’s meeting.

Last year, Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame was key speaker.

Kagame urged those who attended the function to ensure that Kenya heals the wounds inflicted by ethnic conflicts or else it faces the risk of being ranked as a failed state.

Kenya is trying to dig into its past to unravel the truth behind historical injustices.

The Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission is going round the country listening to victims of injustices.

The truth body that is charged with the onus of healing the wounds of past injustices has been hit by credibility crisis following allegations of a dark past on its chairman Bethuel Kiplagat.

Mr Kiplagat has resisted calls for his resignation, arguing he is a clean man.
