SUSPENDED PSS RECALLED?

The government has refuted claims that suspended Permanent Secretaries and other senior government officials have been recalled.

Government spokesman Dr Alfred Mutua on Tuesday clarified that the PSs who were suspended over the maize and free primary education scandals had been directed to keep off from any official engagement until they receive communication from the requisite authority.

Dr. Mutua said the government was yet to receive a formal report on the investigations touching on the suspended officials and could thus not recall them until they have been cleared.

"Therefore, the affected officers have been requested to wait until a formal report is received and a formal communication is issued. As it stands currently, they have not yet been recalled," said Dr Mutua.

The remarks by the government spokesman come amid reports that some of the suspended officers had reported back to office.

Among those suspended for three months on February 13 were agriculture PS Romano Kiome, office of the prime minister PS Mohamed Isahakia, special programmes ministry PS Ali Dawood Mohammed, his education counterpart, Prof Karega Mutahi, and the PM's principal secretary Caroli Omondi.
