Raped

NYAHURURU, Kenya, May 10 – Police in Nyahururu have launched a manhunt for two people who allegedly kidnapped and defiled an 11-year-old girl in Ol-Joro-orok division.

Area police Chief Jasper Ombati said the two who are boda boda operators in Nyahururu town found the girl walking alone in town and offered to take her home.

He said the suspects took the helpless girl to the nearby Busara Forest where they defiled the minor repeatedly and left her writhing in pain on Friday evening.

Mr Ombati said the girl was rescued by two women who were passing by and took her to the Nyahururu district hospital where she was treated and discharged. They later reported the incident to the Nyahururu police station.

The women are now housing the minor since her mother is also missing.

He said efforts to trace her mother are yet to be fruitful after she was reported to have left her place of work in the town a week ago and has not been seen since then.

Mr Ombati says the mother is likely to be charged with child neglect when arrested.

Elsewhere, police in Kisumu have launched a manhunt for a man who shot dead two people as they went to deposit some unknown amount of money to a local bank.

A colleague of the two survived the attack and is admitted to the New Nyanza General Hospital in critical condition.

The three were from a petrol station and were taking the weekend’s proceeds to the bank when a robber armed with a pistol confronted them on the Kisumu-Kakamega road.

Kisumu police boss John Mwinzi said the lone gunman took off without taking the cash which police found intact but failed to confirm the amount.

Police combed the adjacent estates of Obunga and Migosi in a bid to flush out the suspect who according to witnesses walked away after the incident.
