Prime Minister Raila Odinga has told five senior officials who were suspended over corruption allegations to stay away from their offices until the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission completes investigations.
Raila said there was the misconception that the suspended officials could automatically resume office upon expiry of the three-month suspension period.
He however explained that had been "rectified" with the Government making it clear further action could only be taken once the KACC submits its report.
"While the three months suspension period is over, they have not resumed their normal duty as we wait for the final report by the Kacc," the PM told envoys today during a meeting at Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Nairobi.
At the second Development Partners Forum, the donors piled pressure on the Government to deal with corruption.
The suspended officials include Prof Karega Mutahi (Education), Dr Romano Kiome (Agriculture), Ali Mohamed (Special Programmes) and Sammy Kirui (Local Authorities), Dr Mohamed Isahakia and Caroli Omondi both from the Prime Minister’s office.
Yesterday, Government spokesman Alfred Mutua said Kacc had not presented a report to the president and as such the officials should wait until investigations are complete.
