18 - 25 YEARS

Civil servants now have an even better opportunity to own house as the government announced plans to increase the mortgage payment period from 18-25 years.

Housing minister Soita Shitanda says the extension of the payment period will assist civil servants to conveniently adjust mortgage payment schedule and other their financial obligations.

The minister also said, his ministry will partner with international investors in the provision of affordable housing for Kenyans.

Shitanda said the plan will be rolling out to Kisumu, Mombasa, Nyeri and Athi-River.

Already various units have been completed in Jogoo Road, Gichugu Road, Kileleshwa and Kibera.

The ministry is planning to come up with a Housing Authority body which will be inspecting and overseeing the construction of residential buildings.

The Minister was speaking when he officially handed over the keys for the 30 units to beneficiaries of the phase two of Kilimani Area.

The 4 bed-roomed houses are part of the 50 units which have already been taken and are selling at 7.3 Million Shillings with the deposit tagged at 2.3 million Kenya shillings the payment period will be spread up to 25 years.

According to the PS Tirop Kosgey the Ngara phase two and the Makueni project will be ready for occupancy by December this year.
