Kibunja is targeting only the KIKUYU - Kabogo

Thursday July 12th 2012 –William Kabogo, the MP for Juja has thrown punches to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission for leaning too much against the Kikuyu. The parliamentarian accused Mzalendo Kibunja, the chair of NCIC of being tribal in dealing with hate speech.

He said that the commission is only fighting the Kikuyu community. He accused the NCIC of turning a blind eye on many people from other communities who have been inciting Kenyans through hate speech.

The Juja MP was speaking at PCES Gachore in Lari where he said it is wrong for Kibunja to target individuals from one community. He demanded the exposure of the people who translated and interpreted the songs of three Kikuyu musicians before prosecuting them.

This follows a case where three kikuyu musicians have been charged for allegedly composing songs with hate speech undertones.

Kabogo’s claims come a day after the MP for Mathioya, Clement Wambugu accused the NCIC of the same claims.

The songs are believed to spread hate towards the Luo people and the candidature of Raila Amollo Odinga. The musicians were Kamande Wa Kioi, John Muigai Nyaruru and John Mwangi alias John De Mathew but all have denied the charges.

If the musicians are found guilty of hate speech, they will be imprisoned for three years jail term or fined one million or both.
