Raila scores another goal in Mt Kenya

Friday July 13, 2012 - Prime Minister Raila Odinga scored another major political mark on Friday, after he promised Mau Mau war veterans that the government will finance their cases against the British government.

Raila said the government will meet all travelling, accommodation and legal expenses for all veterans who will travel to Britain.

The Mau Mau war veterans are expected to give evidence from Monday in the UK in a case against the colonial government.

The much awaited cases, by survivors of the infamous detention camps operated by the colonialists in the 1950s and 60s, will go on for 11 days in which Mau Mau fighters will seek to prove that they were tortured.

In year 2011, the British Government argued that their claims are time-barred and should be struck out. It also stated that since the royal government had left Kenya, the Kenyan Government should take the liability.

But one of the presiding judges of the case Justice McCombe ruled that the elderly Kenyans had an “arguable” case to present before the court.
