Pastor Njoroge, who recently featured in the media over his miracle claims reported that his vehicle, a black Toyota Prado was sprayed with bullets by unknown gunmen men.
However, police suspect the incident could have been stage managed.
"The impression on the vehicle’s doors are those made on a stationary target and not a moving vehicle,” said Nairobi PPO Anthony Kibuchi.
Mr Kibuchi said that Pastor Njoroge is a licenced firearm holder and that his firearm had been confiscated for ballistic examination.
“If we find out that he gave police wrong information, we will charge him in court,” said Kibuchi.
The ballistic examination will, among other things establish whether the pastor used his firearm to shoot at the car, and if not, the kind of firearm that was used.
Investigations will also to establish where and how the shooting occurred.

Pastor Njoroge claimed that he was in the car but police insist that with the entry and exit points of the bullets, he would have been shot.
Last week, Embakasi police said that they were investigating a case of assault reported by a sex worker Esther Mwende against the pastor and his bodyguards.
Mwende also claimed that she feared for her safety after she received an anonymous call shortly after NTV aired the expose.
In a similar incident last year, Kilome MP John Harun Mwau's driver and guard reported being fired at near Parliament buildings, a week after Mr Mwau claimed his life was in danger and asked for State protection.
Police, after investigations, recommended that the two be charged with giving false information.
Police did not find any spent cartridge at the scene and could not understand how a bullet that hit the driver’s door did not touch him.
Section 169 of the Penal Code says: "Whoever gives to any person employed in the public service any information which he knows or believes to be false... is guilty of a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for three years."
