Miguna should hand over PEV evidence
YESTERDAY morning police went to Miguna Miguna's home but he was not there. The Director of Public Prosecutions had asked police to take a statement from Miguna on his allegations that he had evidence implicating Raila Odinga and other leaders in the post-election violence.
Yesterday it emerged that Miguna had left Kenya on Monday night. He said he had gone on a global marketing campaign for his book Peeling Back the Mask that he launched on Saturday.
His departure was in stark contrast to his text messages over the weekend saying, "I'm not scared or moved. I'm fortified and remain solid granite." Miguna is brilliant, which is presumably why Prime Minister Raila Odinga used him as a personal adviser until September 2011. But he is also mercurial and reckless. He has a tendency to overstate his case.
Kenya is a free country. Miguna has not committed any criminal offence, even if he has antagonised many politicians and officials. He is entitled to express his views. But he is also morally obliged to substantiate his allegations. If he has evidence of involvement in PEV, he should make it public. He should come back to Kenya and tell us what he knows.
