SHAME on Martha, Martha, Martha..... KARUA...Impunity

Saturday July 7, 2012 - In what may seem to be like a love triangle, a High Court Judge Justice G.B.M Kariuki has broken his long silence by saying presidential hopeful Martha Karua got him arrested after “walking away from her”.

The Judge stunned a Nairobi court on Friday, when he said that Martha Karua who was then the Justice Minister, instructed the police to pick him up from his house and escort him to Kamukunji Police Station in the presence of then Nairobi Police Boss JF Mwachai “to humiliate him”.

G.B.M Kariuki further stated that Karua who is also the Gichugu MP further sent a lawyer to the police station to confirm whether the police were following her instructions.

Justice Kariuki said what made the case worse was that the prosecution was not mounted by the complainant, Robert Karori but by the State.

He said the purpose of his arrest was malicious, personal and spiteful and had no bearing on public interest or maintenance of law and order.

“I wish to state that the criminal case against me was exemplified at the height of impunity and abuse of power by Martha Karua,” the Judge said.

The Judge said they knew each other and they have been” friends” for many years until the parted along the way.

“I knew her, she was my friend for many years and she was getting at me as a result of walking away from her,” the Judge said.

During his arrest, the Judge was accused of stabbing Peter Kamau to death along Lower Kabete road, but he was later acquitted of charges for insufficient evidence to proof the case.
