ODM youth in Western Kenya have asked the police to investigate claims by Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo that is life is in danger. They also want Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere to ensure maximum security for the presidential aspirant. Calling themselves as ODM Young Democrats, the youth said: ''We want the police not to take the matter lightly, especially at this time when security in the country is wanting.''
Last week, Jirongo claimed his life was in danger and alleged that the police did not act even after he reported the matter. The youth, who met at the Shieywe Guest House in Butere during the inauguration of Rashid Mohammed as the national ODM youth president, also asked presidential aspirants in the G7 Alliance to spell out their agenda and stop using the name of Prime Minister Raila Odinga in their rallies.
Led by Vihiga County ODM youth leader Ben Ombima, they said: The G7 members are concentrating on using Raila’s name in their rallies without telling Kenyans what they will do for them if they clinch the presidency.'' “We are worried that the country may plunge into disillusion should Kenyans vote in one of them as president because they lack a manifesto and plans to lead,” said Ombima. “They should tell Kenyans the sacrifice they have given to the reform struggle in the country instead of abusing and intimidating the Prime Minister whose reform history speaks for itself,” he said.
The youth leaders from Kakamega and Vihiga said the presidential contenders should positively criticise each other and not concentrate on a single candidate. “We want to see Ruto (William) criticise Kalonzo (Musyoka) or Mudavadi (Musalia) or Uhuru(Kenyatta) and vice versa because none of them is clean. Why have they concerted their efforts in intimidating the Prime Minister alone,” said Ombima. Others present were Bonventure Magatsia, Vihiga ODM chairman, Richard Awiti from Kisumu, George Baraza (Bungoma), Ben Omboko (Khwisero), Mengo Ochwang (Kisii) and Zablon Amukowa (Butere).
