PNU on Saturday said that it would not field a presidential candidate and would instead work with the G7 alliance.
Interim party leader Gideon Konchella announced at a URP rally in Trans Mara that the death of party leader George Saitoti had left a void and that members would prefer to support a presidential candidate from another party as they start the process of restructuring.
“As PNU, we had a presidential candidate, but we don’t have candidate currently, so we are working under the umbrella of G7 to come up with a presidential candidate,” Mr Konchella said at the rally attended by URP presidential candidate William Ruto.
Democratic right
He added that he would be meeting all party branch chairmen in the country to discuss the details of the G7 memorandum of understanding.
“I will be in Mombasa next week to meet the branch officials,” he said.
He said his party is working with G7 leaders to set up with a formidable force that will win the General Election in March next year.
“The Maasai community will not be left behind as we strike unity with other pastoralist communities in the country.”

One of Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s brothers, Mr Isaac Omondi Oginga, also attended the rally, saying it was his democratic right to work with URP despite his brother being in ODM.
Earlier this year, URP leaders publicised their plans to hold a fundraiser for Mr Oginga’s campaign bid for the Bondo parliamentary seat, but they later called off the function.
“I will not talk about my brother as portrayed in the Miguna Miguna book, but I believe I can also release my own dossier,” he said on Saturday.
Coexist peacefully
Mr Ruto concluded his three-day campaign in Trans Mara with a call to the Maasai and the Kipsigis to coexist peacefully if they want to achieve economic growth.
Mr Ruto promised to boost the economy of the region by improving the roads and increasing the number of households with electricity connections.
“We want proper management of resources and transformational leadership with leaders who have a clear vision for the country,” Mr Ruto added.
He said that his party would also embark on boosting the economy of the area through tourism.
“Tourism in the Mara region should be managed well ... to give employment opportunities to the locals and boost the economy of the country,”  he said.
An aspirant for Kilgori’s constituency, Mr John Ng’eno, challenged Mr Ruto to popularise his party outside Rift Valley instead of concentrating on visiting a few areas where individuals want him to rubberstamp their candidature.
