PM VISITS AND COMFORTS SHIKUKU

Prime Minister Raila Odinga today visited veteran politician Martin Shikuku who is recuperating from prostate cancer at the Texas Cancer Center in Nairobi to comfort him.

The PM said that the government will meet the cost of treatment incurred by the long serving politician.

Dr Odinga told Shikuku that he had paid him a visit to wish him speedy recovery.

The PM said that with increasing cases of cancer being reported in the country, the government was coming up with strategies to ensure the cancer diagnosis and treatment was affordable.

Leading Oncologist Dr.Catherine Nyongesa told the PM that Shikuku was undergoing hormonal treatment, radio-therapy, care and support.

Dr. Nyongesa said that prostate cancer is treatable if diagnosed early, and therefore urged men above the age of 40 years to go for screening adding that NHIF should consider meeting treatment costs of cancer inpatients.

The Prime Minister who was visiting Shikuku for the second time at the Center was accompanied by Medical services Minister Professor Anyang Nyong’o and James Orengo of Lands.

Mr. Shikuku while expressing gratitude for the PM’s visit, pleaded that politicians who suffered wrongful incarceration for agitating for the second liberation of the country should be compensated.

Shikuku told the PM that it was gratifying to see how the government was committed to implementing the reform agenda as per the wishes of Kenyans.

He however, noted that caution should be exercised so that the implementation of the constitution is not derailed by non-reformists.

‘’I plead with Prime Minister to be on the lookout and ensure that this constitution is not messed up the way they messed up the Lancaster constitution ‘’, Shikuku said.
