Museveni’s daughter Natasha went to Nyeri Primary School

Museveni’s daughter Natasha went to Nyeri Primary School

Monday, July 09, 2012 - Located at the heart of Central province, Nyeri Primary school is a public school maintained in a private set up has seen the education back ground of many children in the past 63 years.

As a public school you would expect to see a neglected place though it’s not the case at Nyeri Primary School. The school has all the expensive and luxurious facilities you would only see in private and prestigious schools.

It is also the education facilities for several prominent and influential parents’ kids.

One in particular who studied there 30 years ago is the daughter to Uganda president Yoweri Museveni.

The current head teacher gave the DAILY POST a tour to the school and showed us the president’s daughter’s suitcase which still lays in the school 30 years later.

The head teacher said Natasha Museveni was admitted in the school in the year 1982 as a standard two pupil. The teachers at the moment did not know she was the daughter to Museveni as she only used her middle name.

Natasha was known to referring to her parents as dad, mum, aunt and uncle but never used their family name for privacy reasons.

It was during her study at this school that she was snatched one night after her father learnt that his enemies were planning to kidnap his daughter in an attempt to weaken his power.

After the dramatic kidnapping incident the teachers realized who they were hosting as her suitcase had the names Natasha Museveni, they have since prided themselves for being a school that has taught children of the high and mighty.

When free primary schooling was introduced the school had fears that their well preserved facility will see children from all over droning the place as some of the parents denied paying school fees.

The teachers and PTA had a hard time telling the parents to pay school fees or see the facility collapse. The parents had no choice but pay the normal school fees to maintain the school.

The school’s motto ‘SUMMA PETO’ (Aim High) is a clear indication that the 63 year old school also known as Moi Nyeri Complex is a school with a difference.
