Vice-President Kalonzo
Musyoka has said he is confident of succeeding President Kibaki after the
forthcoming General Election.
Kalonzo said he was in
the process of talking with key political leaders across the country to form a
formidable alliance, which will win the polls with a big margin, thus leaving
no room for disputes.
“We are holding extensive discussions with
former Tourism Minister Najib Balala, United Republican Party (URP) leader
William Ruto, we are also talking with Uhuru Kenyatta and all those within G7
and outside,” he said.
Kalonzo was speaking after attending a church function at the
Global Worship Centre, Kiserian in Kajiado County, on Sunday.
His comments followed a plea by Limuru legislator Peter Mwathi,
who had earlier said that it was important for the Vice-President, Uhuru, Ruto
and others to talk and agree on one candidate.
Big smoke
“I remember last year we had discussed and agreed and even now, I
say you talk and agree to go in one room, discuss amongst yourselves until
those of us who are outside see white smoke, a signal that you have agreed,”
said Mwathi Mwala MP Daniel Muoki and Kajiado North parliamentary aspirant
Moses ole Sakuda attended the function.
Meanwhile, Defence Assistant minister David Musila took his
campaigns for Kitui County senate post to Water minister Charity Ngilu’s
political backyard and asked her to stop belittling and undermining the
Vice-President.
Musila said Kambaland was bigger than any individual, adding that
the manner in which local politicians handled the community’s political destiny
in public was critical.
The Mwingi South MP met various leaders at Katulani shopping
centre in Ngilu’s Kitui Central constituency, at the weekend, where he received
overwhelming backing for his senate bid.
The assistant minister called on Ngilu to respect other leaders,
saying it was unfair to heap blame for everything negative on Kalonzo.
Musila said as a pioneer senator, he would develop roads, water,
electricity and other sectors.
Former cabinet minister George Ndotto and a Nairobi based
financial consultant Julius Malombe, who is eyeing the governor’s post, urged
voters to reject leaders who were out to divide the community for their own
selfish gains. Mr Ndotto and Dr Malombe described Musila as a servant with
ambitions to lead the whole county.
Malombe said the assistant minister had demonstrated strong
leadership skills and willingness to unite people and that he looked forward to
working with him as senator.
Musila said he was humbled to receive the
leaders’ overwhelming support and vowed not to let anyone down.
Big potential
He said although he was so far the sole candidate for the senate
seat, he will not take anything for granted.
“I will not underrate anybody and I will try
to bring every county leader on board. I will campaign vigorously and will not
underestimate real or imagined opponents,” he said.
Musila called on the voters to elect selfless leaders with good
ideologies.
“I want to change lives. My passion is to leave a legacy with
leadership marked by selfless service and enviable development record for the
county,” Musila said.
The Mwingi South MP said the county had a lot of potential, which
has remained untapped due to the marginalisation by successive Governments
since independence.
He said he dedicated himself to servant leadership as an MP since
1997 and he will use his administrative and legislative skills to ensure that
with the new constitutional dispensation Kitui County got its rightful share of
revenue.
