The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has unveiled peace ambassadors to help its quest of uniting Kenyans.
NCIC chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia said Tuesday that the ambassadors will complement the commission's work especially as the country heads to the elections.
"We must realise that unity and cohesion in Kenya is not a preserve of NCIC. It is the duty of each and every Kenyan," Dr Kibunjia said.
He said that the ambassadors will immediately take up their role of driving a campaign by the Commission dubbed Kenya Kwanza (Kenya comes first).
Among the peace ambassadors include musicians Eric Wainaina and Juliani, businessman Manu Chandaria and entrepreneur Patrick Obath, athletes Tecla Lorupe, Catherine Ndereba and journalist Julie Gichuru.
Others include Lazarus Sumbeiyo, retired Methodist bishop Lawi Imathiu, Canon Peter Karanja of the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), Sheikh Abdi Mohammed of Supkem, Florence Mbaiye, retired General Daniel Opande and Catholic Bishop Cornelius Korir.
Speaking when he commissioned the goodwill ambassadors, Justice minister Eugene Wamalwa echoed Dr Kibunjia's sentiments saying that Kenyans must help the government in peace efforts.
