President Mwai Kibaki has appointed the seven nominees to the Selection Panel, which will pick commissioners to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Presidential Press Service (PPS) boss Isaiah Kabira told Nation that the President signed the gazette notice appointing the seven nominees on Friday—a day after Parliament approved them.
They are: Prof Marion Wanjiku Mutugi, Mr Mwanyengela Ngali, Dr Ekuru Aukot, Ms Rozaah Akinyi Buyu, Justice Isaac Lenaola, Ms Irene Cheptoo Keino and Ms Sophie Njeri Moturi.
The appointment of the commissioners fulfills the legal requirement in the IEBC Act to have the Selection Panel in place within a fortnight of the Act’s publication. The Act was published on July 18.
The panel will act as a sieve. It will offer three candidates for the seat of chairperson for appointment by the President.
Only one will be picked. It will pick 13 commissioners, out of which only eight will be picked.
But still Parliament will have to approve the names of the commissioners before the President approves.
