ODM's top brass exuded confidence that their party will triumph over the G7 alliance in next year's general election to form the next government with Prime Minister Raila Odinga as president. Raila said "the playing field will be level and new ground rules in place to guarantee a free and fair election."
He said ODM will win unlike in the 2007 poll when "the elections were 'stolen'. "I scored a double but the referee ruled it out only to gift PNU a win via a hand scored goal," he told a crowd at Posta grounds in Bungoma Town on Sunday evening.
He was categorical that he would not part ways with Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi as wished by his opponents who have hatched schemes to split the Orange party after realising it was the most popular in the country and was out to redeem the country from bad governance since independence.
National Heritage minister William Ole Ntimama labelled the G7 leaders "vinyangarika" whom when viewed through a magnifying glass were "selfish land grabbers, thieves and engaged in bribery of judicial officers.
Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru urged ODM supporters to refrain from developing fatigue and make the final push to ensure Raila becomes president. "Rift Valley and Central Kenya have had their time. "I am a Kikuyu who believes in national unity, let us be just and support the Prime Minster, we must give others a chance to lead. Uhuru must stop being selfish", she said
Health minister Anyang Nyongo said that Kenyans were aware that they ought to vote leaders who will take the country forward"There comes a time when leaders must be known by their deeds".he said. He called on all reformers to stand together and accomplish reforms in governance.
Sports minister Paul Otuoma promised that an ODM government would ensure that equity and wealth creation were prioritised . Matungu member of parliament David Were lashed at the G7 alliance describing it a group of gangsters that could not be trusted with the leadership of this country.
Rarieda member of parliament Nicholas Gumbo accused the G7 alliance of trying to devide the country by fronting presidential candidates on the basis of their ethnicity ."If people like Rapheal Tuju lost parliamentary election how can they come to battle it out with Agwambo".
Kanduyi member of parliament Alfred Khang'ati and his Emuhaya counter part wilber Otichilo endorsed Raila for Presidency saying there was nobody of his much in the G7 alliance.
The PM said previous regimes thrived on ethnic divisions and ran down the economy. "But we want to unite all Kenyans through ODM which is the natural party to take power considering its stated manifesto with clear cut policies designed to transform the economy and industrialise the country," he said. "We do not need any other party, we have selfless and dependable players. These other people have yet to come up with their presidential candidate and their party is unknown. He dismissed his opponents as "anti-reformists and false prophets who cannot implement the constitution they opposed" during last year's referendum.
Mudavadi urged the party's supporters in Western to guard against propaganda being spread by the G7 alliance with the intention of splitting ODM. 'You cannot become president if you campaign only in four counties, you need to fulfil the constitutional threshold to garner 50 per cent plus one of the total votes cast to win the presidency and our party has that capacity.
