Information and Communication Minister Samuel Poghisio has declared his interest for the presidency under the G7 alliance come 2012. In seeking to extend the wings of the G7 alliance to West Pokot, Poghisio asked his constituents to accord the alliance the necessary support it requires. He now joins a growing number of aspirants hoping to occupy State House come 2012. The Information Minister whose allegiance to his sponsor party ODM-Kenya seems to be shifting, has now declared publicly that he is among those eying the presidency under the G7 alliance. Poghisio who serves as the ODM-Kenya chairman, intends to face off with his party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, in seeking nomination as the coalition's flag bearer come 2012. He however seems to have a soft spot for Eldoret North MP William Ruto and has asked the people of West Pokot to support the embattled former minister. And even as the political showdown continues, the United Democratic Movement leadership has dismissed claims that the party's 2012 flag bearer could be nominated directly. UDM secretary general Martin Kamwaro says they will opt for a competitive nomination to identify a candidate. UDM has now announced that all those seeking to vie for the presidential seat under the party will have to go through the ballot. Kamwaro ruled out endorsing anybody for the seat as being touted, as ICC suspect and former minister William Ruto has openly declared his intention of vying for the presidential seat under UDM. "We do not have any preferred candidate yet and all those seeking various positions will have to competitively go for them," While insisting that the party was united and ready for the 2012 elections, Kamwaro hit out at some politicians of meddling with Narok politics. Without naming names, Kamwaro accused the politicians of going around the County presenting their preferred ‘line-up' ahead of the general elections. "These political-tourists should keep off from the politics of the Narok County and let the electorate decide for themselves," he said. Kamwaro hit out at ODM for sacking some of its ministers terming the move as dictatorial and welcomed ODM rebels to join them. His sentiments were echoed by Public Works Assistant Minister Mwangi Kiunjuri who accused the party of dictatorship. He advised the electorate to vote only for parties that uphold democratic values. |
