The Cutting Edge

RUDE POLICE. Calling the police when in danger these days, one is not guaranteed a quick response that could make a difference between life and death, says Wambua Musembi.
The Nakuru resident claims that people in need of urgent help will often encounter a “rude and not-so-sober” officer on the other end of the line.
“Sometimes, that fellow will even ask irrelevant and embarrassing questions instead of rushing to the rescue of those in trouble.” Musembi can be reached at fwmusembi@gmail.com.

NO THROUGH WAY. With the frantic road construction going on in Nairobi, Shreya Shah, who lives on Wambugu Road, says it has been a nightmare for the residents, with trucks getting stuck at the dead end.
Also bearing the brunt are  home owners, whose hedges have been damaged.
But worse is the plight of motorists in the neighbourhood. “The road gets blocked for hours, but it has got worse with a diversion through Wambugu Lane. We just need a sign saying, ‘No Through Way’,” Shreya pleads.

THIKA ROAD. The debate on what to call the beautiful multi-lane highway that is just about to be completed on Thika Road, continues, with Denis Gathanju, also flatly rejecting suggestions that a prominent local or foreign person should be honoured.
The best name for the new highway, Denis adds, is to simply call it the Thika Expressway, reflecting the fact that part of the objective is the creation of the fast lanes to ease the traffic flow.
“I hope my voice will be heard on this one,” he concludes.

NO EASY BOOKING. The Easy Coach management had better immediately do something about overbooking on the Nairobi-Kampala bus, urges Jack Onyando.
The worst affected, he adds, are passengers who like to board the night bus in Kisumu.
Jack says he cannot understand why there should be a problem in this era of Information Technology and online booking.
“It is annoying to allow people to choose their favourite seats and not give them when they turn up at the terminus,” says Jack, whose contact is Tel. 0721415883 or omondionyando@yahoo.com.

ELECTORAL TEAM. The next group of Kenyans who should be given a chance to head or be part of the crucial electoral and boundaries commissions must be individuals who are competent, candid, untainted with corruption, and not affiliated to any political party or politicians, says Patrick Ndege.
The electoral team, he adds, should then be given the freedom to prepare for and manage next year’s poll competently to avoid a repeat of the 2007 mayhem.
Have the best day, won’t you!
