Raila denies any hand in Siaya politics

By MANGOA MOSOTA
Prime Minister Raila Odinga has said he has no hand in the Siaya County politics and insisted that the electorate will freely elect their leaders.
Raila said Lands Minister James Orengo and Finance Assistant Minister Oburu Odinga have jointly made a political decision on their own volition.
“The two decided on their own and I was not part to the agreement. It was a decision that they reached between themselves,” the premier said.
Speaking at Nyamira ACK in Bondo, Siaya County on Christmas Eve, Raila said any contestant is free to seek the senatorship and gubernatorial posts in the area.
“The door is not closed, as the electorate will have a voice in choosing the county’s leaders in the forthcoming polls,” he said.
Mid this month, Oburu and Orengo decided not to compete for the senate seat. The duo instead said Orengo would contest the senate post, while Oburu would go for gubernatorial post.
They said they have made the decision to avoid acrimony among their supporters. But the presence of ODM Secretary General Anyang Nyong’o at a meeting, where they made the announcement sparkled criticism from several aspirants from the county.
Some aspirants for the governor seat among them Gideon Ochanda and William Oduor said they would seek court address if the nominations will not be free and fair.
