Bizarre items found at aspirant’s gate

Residents of Isinya were in shock when they stumbled upon items suspected to be used for witchcraft at a Kajiado East parliamentary aspirant’s gate.

The materials included a cat placed in a pot and covered with a piece of cloth, a coffin bearing the aspirant’s name, and a piece of paper on which death threats were written.

The threatening message was written in the local dialect and directed at Mr Joshua Oluwasa, an ODM aspirant in the region, warning him to quit politics or be ready to face dire consequences.

“We are giving you the last warning and if you defy our orders you risk being wiped out of politics,” read a part of the note.

The aspirant, who had left his home for Nairobi, was informed of the incident by his sister, who spotted them at the gate and raised alarm attracting a crowd.

Rev Moses Gitonga of Full Gospel Church led a group of members of the clergy in prayers over the issue.

Stern warning

Frightened residents ran for dear life  at one point during the prayer session when a kitten raised its head from the pot and made noises.

After the prayer session, the cleric led the crowd in burning the materials, and the kitten was removed from  the pot when some residents broke the pot after stoning it.

When contacted for comment, the aspirant who is also a sitting councillor, said he suspects his rivals were responsible because of his growing popularity.

Area Police boss Simon Kiragu confirmed the incident and sent a stern warning to politicians who use death threats against their opponents.

Barely three weeks ago, suspected gangsters attacked the aspirant at his Isinya home.
