MIGORI, KENYA: Migori acting DC John Fedha has banned motorcyclists from operating in town at night following the killing of three riders.
The three motorcyclists were stabbed to death by unknown assailants in separate incidents in a span of ten days.
Speaking in Migori town, Mr Fedha said the riders will now only be allowed to operate between 5am and 9pm to avert crime and warned that those who defy the order will be arrested and charged in court.
“We have decided to act due to the rise in crime related to boda boda businesses,” Fedha said.
Suspected syndicate
The three were each stabled severally with knives and their motorcycles stolen in what is suspected to be a syndicate operating within the town.
In one of the incidents, Gabriel Kivandah, a Form Two student at Friends School Kaimosi was killed by his attackers just a few metres away from the DC’s office as he headed home from town.
Mr George Kivandah, the boy’s father and the national chairman of the Kenya Soya Beans Farmers Association, said the killings were very unfortunate.
In another incident, Johah Otieno, a Form Two student at Nyikendo Secondary School was found dead with deep cuts on his body and his motorcycle missing after ferrying a customer to the outskirts of the town.
body dumped
Another secondary school student within Migori town who was also operating a motorbike during the holiday was also killed and his body dumped in a thicket just outside the town.
Migori police boss Mr Alfred Makoma said they were already following some leads in pursuit of the suspects.
