- There has been a high turn-over in the job under the Kibaki administration, with occupants being shown the door in unclear circumstances
Career diplomat Zachari Muburi-Muita is among several high profile public servants being considered for appointment as State House Comptroller.
Dr Muita is said to have been contacted by senior officials in the Office of the President during a recent trip to Ethiopia.
If appointed, he will replace Dr Nelson Githinji who was moved from the position in unclear circumstances to the post of director of Tourism after a two-year stint. Since Mr Githinji’s removal, the post has been vacant as the country heads to elections.
There has been a high turn-over in the job under the Kibaki administration, with occupants being shown the door in unclear circumstances.
They include Matere Kereri and Hyslop Ipu.
“Muburi is a senior diplomat and the presidency believes calling him back home to handle the transition is very important,” said a top government official who sought anonymity because he is not authorised to give information to the media.
Dr Githinji came in as the third comptroller after the position was watered down and divided into two to create the post of President’s private secretary.
Prof Nick Wanjohi, who was named the private secretary and who has been handling the President’s diary, was moved from State House to Harambee House.
The President has also shifted a chunk of his office to Harambee House and recent swearing in of ministers Katoo ole Metito (Security), Ababu Namwamba (Sports) and Assistant minister John Mbadi (PM’s Office) was held there.
