Party of Action presidential hopeful Raphael Tuju on Sunday urged Kenyans to be wary of political coalitions that seek to divide the country along tribal lines.
He said most of the alliances were aimed at brainwashing Kenyans in their effort to make independent decisions.
“There are some leaders who are power hungry and seek to use all means to achieve their ambitions by instilling fear on their supporters and promoting hatred,” said the former Information minister.
He said that endorsement of candidates by politicians was an outdated mode of identifying leaders.
He asked electorates to interrogate all candidates, including their historical background.
“Last general elections resulted in chaos because some leaders were too anxious due to their endorsement. When they did not succeed, they incited their supporters, saying there would be no peace unless they took over power,” said the former Cabinet minister.
Mr Tuju defended his coalition with Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, saying their leadership would offer Kenyans an alternative leadership.
“We are not seeking power but are only interested in offering Kenya an alternative leadership,” he said.
Speaking at a press briefing after attending a Sunday service at Kingdom Seekers Fellowship in Nakuru, Mr Tuju said that Kenyans were yet to redeem themselves from choosing leaders through a euphoria.
“Time is ripe for Kenyans to rise beyond such politics and focus on individual ideologies,” said Mr Tuju. “We are tired of campaigns based on tribal alliances because they prevent the country from focusing on issue-oriented governance.”
