Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula will not back Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi even if the Sabatia MP is chosen as the Jubilee Alliance presidential candidate.
Mr Wetang’ula argued that the DPM refused to support Ford Kenya’s presidential candidate, the late Kijana Wamalwa in the 1997 elections and did not throw his weight behind President Kibaki like the party did in the 2007 elections.
“He should not expect us to support him just because he is a Luhya. We don’t want to gamble with the presidency of this country and that is why we are going to remain firmly in Cord,” he said.
Defections
Both Mr Mudavadi and the Trade minister are from Western Kenya.
The DPM is battling out for the Jubilee Alliance presidential ticket with TNA leader Uhuru Kenyatta. Mr Wetangula was addressing more than 500 teachers in Bungoma County where he was drumming up support for the Cord alliance.
The party also welcomed defectors from its rival in the region, the New Ford Kenya. Mr Wetangula was accompanied by among others, the party’s secretary-general Eseli Simiyu and Lands Assistant Minister Wakoli Bifwoli.
