Uhuru acquires two campaign choppers for 2012

Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta
Deputy Prime minister Uhuru Kenyatta has acquired two helicopters that will be critical in traversing the country drumming up his support among the electorate.
The move by the deputy prime minister is however, expected to ruffle feathers within the two groupings of G7 and PNU alliance of which Uhuru is a central partner in their unity.
The two amorphous groupings are working ‘closely’ towards the Kibaki succession bandwagon ostensibly to deny Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is expected to get the ODM nod, the required numbers to statehouse.
The constitution pronounces a threshold of at least 50+ 1 per cent of the total votes cast in the election or getting the support in at least 24 of the 47 counties in the country before one can be declared the winner of a presidential race.
The acquiring of the choppers by Uhuru could mean that he is destined to the ballot paper albeit the much hyped unity talks revolving around Vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, Eldoret North MP William Ruto among a host of MPs who revolve around the three centers in the alliance.
Efforts to get a response from Uhuru’s spokesman Munyori Buku were futile after he refused to answer our phone calls.
Uhuru’s action could be the latest infighting within the groupings where faction leaders have their interests in the coming elections.
For instance the Eldoret North MP, with presidential ambitions, has been on a whirlwind tour across the country reorganizing his UDM party, the political vehicle he is expected to try his ambition for the big seat.
He is at the center of the party’s ongoing recruitment drive where he has been widely accused of ‘stashing’ party membership with his cronies to win illegal favors through the back door.
Kalonzo on the other hand has also reorganized his party that has since transformed into Wiper Democratic Party from ODM- Kenya. The rebranding means that he is serious with his name being on the presidential ballot paper.
On several occasions at public functions, he has been steadfast in indicating that the 2012 contest will pity him against the prime minister, a remark that might not have endeared well to his sector members
though there has been a fake tinge of calm exhibited mainly through the unity photo sessions after every meeting.
Insiders say all is not well within the G7 and PNU alliance where members led by Uhuru and Ruto have gone after vice president’s jugular over his overgrowing repute of ‘entitlement’ for the presidency at the expense of his allies.
