Thirty-One suspected Mungiki adherents were arraigned in a Kerugoya court on Friday facing charges of being members of a proscribed sect.
The suspects who were arrested by police in Kutus town in Kirinyaga Countyon Wednesday were not required to take plea as investigations into their case had not been completed.
According to the investigating officer Chief Inspector Eric Ng'etich the suspects are believed to be behind a recent spate of robberies and killings in Kirinyaga County.
He requested the court to remand the suspects to allow him finalize investigations in their cases.
Senior Principal Magistrate Susan N Ndegwa ordered the suspects remanded in Kerugoya Police Station until January 3 2012 when their cases will come for mentioning.
In the same court a man who had been arrested in connection with the murder of a senior Lands Officer in Kirinyaga County has been set free for lack of enough evidence from the prosecution side.
Peterson Karimi was arrested by police before Christmas to help unravel the bizarre murder of Simon Kiragu and his lover Joyce Akinyi Adede at his rented house in Miringa Iiri Estate in Kerugoya town on the night of December 19 2011.
