Royal Christmas



You have seen them in media making waves in the political arena. Love them or hate them, these high-flying politicians are humans who also take time off to rest. So where will Kenya’s royal families spend this Christmas? NJOKI CHEGE found out
The Odingas – Bondo
This Christmas, you can catch the Odinga clan in their Bondo home. Today is expected to begin with a church service in the local village church, after which they will go home for a party.

together everyone in the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s household and even beyond. 
"We will all be going home. The entire, Odinga family, and I am talking about the extended family. We are hoping to have a good time with them, as we usher inthe New Year," says Ida.
Ida urges Kenyans to be responsible in their actions and be wary that Christmas is not a time to over indulge but a time to set a good example to the younger ones and share with the less fortunate in society.
Cecily Mbarire And Family- Runyenjes
The holidays, particularly Christmas time are a treasured time to this politician since it is probably the only time she and her family will have time together. You will catch up with her at Runyenjes — visiting extended family with her brood.
"It is time to take a break, and the children will get to see their grandparents, cousins and other family members. Christmas time is family time," she says.
The Balalas- Mvita
Even though they are Muslims, the Balalas take this holiday season very seriously, according to Tourism ministerand Mvita MP Najib Balala. "The holidays are important, not just from the religious angle but because they are a good time to relax, unwind and spend time with loved ones," says Balala. This festive season, the Balala children will be home from overseas for a family reunion in Mvita . The Balalas are hoping to have a great time as they re-unite with friends and family, not forgetting their constituents with whom they will be sharing joy and spreading love.
The Mudavadis- Saboti
Christmas began early for Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi. He had a series of engagements this season, including meeting newly elected ODM officials in Trans-Nzoia and presiding over the Musalia Cup in Sabatia. Today, the deputy prime minister’s family will be at their rural home in Mululu.
After the morning Christmas service, they will have lunch with friends and family. Tomorrow, you can catch the deputy prime minister at the Vihiga Cultural Festival in Mbale. Mudavadi will then take a break until after the New Year.
The Waititus- Embakasi, Nairobi County
This Christmas season, constituents of Embakasi will be lucky to interact with their legislator as Ferdinand Waititu will be on the ground. To this end, he will be spending Christmas with his constituents in various parts of the vast Embakasi constituency, while his family will be away in the USA.
"I am looking forward to having a good time this Christmas, as I spend it with my constituents," says Waititu.
The Wamalwas- Saboti
Christmas began early for Eugene Ludovic Wamalwa and his family. Yesterday, the family was in Budalang’i where Wamalwa and several farmers from Trans-Nzoia District put together several bags of maize and visited residents affected by the recent floods. Today, you can catch up with Eugene and his family in Saboti constituency.
"We have several members of the family who have come home for Christmas from as far as the USA.
We will be spending this Christmas with my constituents. We have organised several games, which we will play on that day. I am looking forward to one big happy family Christmas," says Eugene.
Bishop Margaret Wanjiru & Family
Today, you will catch up with Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and family in the city distributing foodstuffs to the poor and homeless. She will also visit several children’s homes and spend time with the children and share whatever she has prepared for them.
"It is good to be a blessing to others, especially in this festive season. Don’t eat alone; consider the poor. Purpose to feed someone this season. Live in peace as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who is the Prince of Peace," says the bishop who is also the MP for Kamukunji.
The Nyongos-Kisumu
This year has been a tough one on the Nyong’o family, with the patriarch — Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o braving prostate cancer. Sources reveal that the Nyongos will be away in the USA for a review of Prof Nyongo’s health and progression.
The Muthamas –Kangundo
The poor, the sick and destitute in Kangundo constituency will have a rare treat this Christmas, as Johnstone Muthama and his family plan on spending their Christmas with them.
The family will visit the poor in the constituency as well as the sick in the Kangundo General Hospital to comfort and a encourage them. According to Mr Muthama, not a single coin will be spent on luxurythis season.
"Given the hard times Kenyans are going through and the high levels of poverty, not a single coin will be spent on luxury. We have decided to spend time with the poor and the sick," says Muthama.
Adan Keynan Wehliye- Wajir West
As is tradition for Wajir West residents, this Christmas will be spent eating nyama choma and interacting with their legislator, Adan Keynan.
"As is my tradition, I have always spent the Christmas holiday and New Year’s with my constituents in Wajir West. We will be having nyama choma as we relax, Inshallah," says Keynan.
The Mutava Musyimis- Gachoka
You can catch this presidential aspirant and his family in Riakanau Village, where he was born and bred. For the Christmas service, the family will be at the ACK Emmanuel Church, Riakanau.
"After the service, we have invited the community — most of whom we grew up together at home for lunch. I am looking forward to bonding and catching up with them this Christmas," says Musyimi.
You can, however, shelve the idea of discussing politics today with Mutava as he is only looking forward to ‘chilaxing’ (chilling and relaxing) and spending a good time with his friends and family.
"There will be absolutely no political agenda, today," he asserts.
