A day after the release of 2011 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results, the national examining body now says Marell Academy in Bungoma County was the top private school, with 411.78 marks and not Gilgil Hills Academy.
The results announced Wednesday by Education Minister Sam Ongeri listed Gilgil Hills Academy as the top-ranked school with a mean score of 410.
A statement by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Public Relations Officer, Frida Were indicated that the name of the school was erroneously omitted from the list of best performing private schools nationally.
The Director and stakeholders of Marell Academy in Bungoma County had raised concern why the school was not ranked at all yet it emerged with the highest mean score in the country.
Speaking to press in his office, the school's director Mr. Ellis Ominde said the omission has impacted negatively on the school.
"Parents have kept calling us to find out what went wrong because they do not believe that the exam results we are giving them are genuine as the school never appeared anywhere despite having performed well" said the director.
Two public schools were also omitted from the list. All Saints Kebulunik and St Mathews Septonok, which had 390.51 and 380.57 marks respectively, are now placed positions three and five in the top 10 public schools nationally.
Compact Disc Data
KNEC also released the wrong Compact Disc to the media and had to recall it later, warning on the use of data contained therein.
"This is a follow up to caution that the CD which was issued to you during the release of the 2011 KCPE examination results is confidential and the information contained therein can only be released by KNEC. The publishing or communication of any information contained on that CD is illegal and when this happens and is traced to you, the Council will take legal action," read the statement.
