Five people died in various incidents during the Christmas period as police around the country tightened security in public places to avert terror attacks.
In Nairobi, police used helicopters to patrol the city sky and the public to random checks and screening of vehicles. In Kisumu, two people died in separate road accidents.
Nyando OCPD Patrick Mbarire said that the first accident occurred at around 3pm on Saturday at Korowe along Ahero-Nairobi Road when a motorcycle was hit from behind by a bus killing its passenger.

Several passengers travelling in the Nya Ugenya  bus were also injured. Four of the injured are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at New Nyanza General Hospital.
“The motorcycle rider however escaped unhurt,” said Mr Mbarire. At 7pm, another motorcycle rider was hit by an oncoming vehicle when he attempted to overtake another motorcycle.
The two were racing at Multipurpos, Nyando when one attempted to overtake his rival and was hit by the vehicle. He later died. In Nyamira South District, a man was stabbed to death in a love triangle.
The victim, who is yet to be identified, was killed by a man (name withheld) after the deceased found two men in a bar with another woman at Konate Trading Centre on Sunday.

A fight broke out when the deceased tried to snatch the woman from the two men. One of the two men stabbed and killed the victim.
However, angry revellers started beating the couple but Nyamira police boss David Muange rescued her.
In a related incident, Mr Muange yesterday morning saved an AP who was found with an under-age girl in his house from a lynch mob.
The villagers wanted to burn the security officer for allegedly locking the17-year–old Form three school girl in his house at Magombo.
The mother of the girl had traced the missing student to the AP’s house and raised an alarm after she found her in the house.
Residents demanded the arrest of the AP involved, claiming he was a threat to young girls in the region.
In Malaba, police have launched investigations into the death of a woman who was murdered and her body dumped in River Malakisi.
Teso Deputy Police boss Francis Wahome said that the body of the deceased woman was discovered by a young boy who was passing near the river on Friday.
Drowning woman
Mr Wahome said that the boy saw the woman’s clothes and got curious. It is only when he moved closer that he saw a body lying on the river bank.
Speaking to journalists in his Amagoro office on Monday, Mr Wahome appealed to area residents to assist police with information that could help solve the murders.
In Migori, Christmas celebrations turned tragic after a man died soon after consuming alcohol. The middle-aged victim was said to have drank several bottles of spirits, after which he began vomiting blood.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Oruba hospital. Others who had drunk the brew lay unconscious by the roadside.
