Kiraitu: "We don't care whether the candidate is short or tall. The presidential race is not a beauty contest but a battle of wits and that is what we want to see" |
The
Njuri Ncheke will decide the direction of politics in Meru setting off a
new dimension in the region. Political bigwigs in the region led by
Energy Kiraitu Murungi and head of public service Francis Muthaura are
now casting their trust on the famous council of elders to determine
presidential aspirant to support in the forthcoming general elections.
It
is a decision that raises more questions than answers and bound to
create dabate as a section of leaders were not present at the ceremony
where the decision was crafted.
Imenti South MP
Kiraitu Murungi observed that the region would not be blindfolded and it
will only support an individual who will have their interest at heart.
"It
does not matter whether the cat is white or black, so long as it is
able to catch the mice," Kiraitu said denoting that they would not put
much consideration to the tribes from which the candidates hails, as
long as they are able to deliver to them.
"We
don't care whether the candidate is short or tall. The presidential race
is not a beauty contest but a battle of wits and that is what we want
to see," he said.
The decision comes in the wake
of continuous vote hunting missions by various presidential hopefuls
including G7 leaders Uhuru Kenyatta,Prof George Saitoti,William Ruto and
vice president Kalonzo Musyoka as well as the prime minister Raila
Odinga all of whom received a warm reception.
However
the decision casts a cloud of doubt following the absence of the other
seven MPs from the region some of whom have announced their support to
particular aspirants.
Cracks may emerge on the Meru vote that has maintained its loyalty to president Kibaki for the last 20 years.
