The PM addressed wananchi at various centres on his way to Kerugoya |
Prime
Minister Raila Odinga is calling for unity of all Kenyans saying no
single community can propel one of their own to the leadership of this
country without the endorsement and support of other Kenyan
communities.
The PM was speaking in Central Kenya where he addressed residents at various centres on his way to Kerugoya.
The
PM who rode in a van together with the MP for Kiambaa Stanley
Githunguri, former Attorney General Charles Njonjo mounted an open
caravan from time to time to acknowledge greetings from the
enthusiastic crowds.
Emphasizing that the country
was for all Kenyans, Mr. Odinga pointed out that any Kenyan was free to
live and own property in any part of the country without fear of
intimidation.
He said, "We would like all Kenyan
communities to continue living together peacefully and avoid
tribal animosities that set different communities against each other
in the past."
At the same time, Mr. Odinga told
Kenyans that they will start reaping the fruits of the new
constitution when the constitution becomes fully operational after the
next general elections.
Noting that the
constitution will completely change the way the affairs of this
country are run, the PM commended the people of central Kenya for
overwhelmingly supporting its passage at the referendum last year.
In
this regard, Mr. Odinga asked Kenyans to conduct clean electioneering
and vote wisely and peacefully when general elections are called next
year. "There should be no victor or vanquished in the elections but
Kenyans who are ready to support each other in taking the country to the
next level," he added.
He said there was need to expand Kenya's economy so that the country can compete effectively with other developed countries.
The PM also spoke against excessive drinking in Central Kenya saying it was a major drawback to development in the area.
Among the centres he addressed wananchi were Kenol, Sabasaba,Maragua and Sagana.
