Our wags tell us that Henry Kosgey is planning to defend his seat as the ODM chairman when elections are held later this month. It seems that the man from Tinderet might be considering returning to the Raila Odinga fold after his short dalliance with William Ruto who is the party's deputy leader but who has distanced himself from the party and has stopped short of quitting it. It is understood that some people close to Kosgey have advised him that he is better off with Raila since some people within Ruto's camp are likely to humiliate him.

Conspiracy theories — especially those surrounding opinion polls — continue to abound. The latest is by some G7 allied MPs who claim the latest poll by Synovate was a deliberate ploy by the ODM to force the alliance to pick Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta as their candidate in 2012. Those spinning the theory say that it will be easy for Raila to beat Uhuru in the presidential elections as they are convinced that Kenyans are unlikely to vote for a Kikuyu to succeed Kibaki.

A senior cop yesterday was overhead telling someone on the telephone that the KTN investigation Jicho Pevu Paruwanja la Mihadharati had exposed him and other top officers. "How did these people get all this information and documents? We must find out who betrayed us because if we do not do that, we will all be exposed. You know how secret this operation was meant to be," the senior policeman was overheard telling the person at the other end. The cop was having lunch at an exclusive hotel on Thika Road.
