The US ambassador has warned the two principals to expect criticism against the government if need arises.
Mr Jonathan Gration on Thursday said he would not fear speaking out against wrongs if diplomacy failed.
“There will be a time of disagreement but respectful,” he said.
Mr Gration, who has so far taken a non-confrontational style unlike his predecessor Michael Ranneberger, said the fact that he had kept a low profile did not mean that he was not following what is happening in the country.
In an interview with the Nation at his Nairobi residence after the graduation of 49 peace corps, the envoy said the government had so far done well in implementing the new Constitution.
“The reality is that it (government) has done a lot especially in Judiciary after the appointment of the Chief Justice and his deputy in a transparent manner,” he said.
He said the US was after Kenya building its economy to uplift living standards. “It is not about fighting but getting a common ground of understanding,” Mr Gration said.
At the same time, the ambassador said he was not sure if President Obama would visit the country in September as had been speculated.
“I have not heard of the trip and I could have been told a long time ago,” he said.
He said President Obama was busy with his campaigns in the US and it would not be good for him to come before next year’s elections.
