Corridors of Power

Last week, we told you about UDF associated with Central Kenya leaders secret recruiting members through seminars held at the Corat Africa Conference Centre. After it became public, the party has changed tack. We are informed a similar training  scheduled over the weekend was moved to Di Mase Sister Centre in Karen to avoid attracting journalists. Delegates were picked from the city centre in unmarked vans and booked into the venue. Unlike at Corat, they were not provided with any programme nor did they sign anywhere for their Sh10,000 per diem. All the activities of the party are being done in a clandestine way to conceal any evidence of UDF spending as our mole says the money for running 'the training, leadership and governance symposium' programmes is being sponsored by state officers, some very powerful individuals working for the Office of the President. Our mole tells us President Kibaki's private secretary Professor Nick Wanjohi is one of the facilitators of the symposiums.

One of the presidential hopefuls has now acquired a chopper in preparation for the 2012 General Election. The man has also been secretly involved in the ongoing football campaigns to pick national officials. We are told that one of those seeking  a top seat in the football association has been using the chopper to ferry him to different parts of the country in search of votes from clubs.

Still on the upcoming General Election, a local TV station is readying itself to cover the 2012 polls in style. Proprietors of the media house are in the process of acquiring two choppers that their crews will use to cover election campaigns. Our mole told us that senior managers of the company flew to South Africa recently to inspect the final touches of overhauling and branding the choppers with the company's colours and an inbuilt Outside Broadcast (OB) studio. One of the choppers may be delivered to the country by end of this year while the second chopper will be due in next year.
