SUSPENDED Higher Education minister William Ruto has said a new alliance has been crafted to take over leadership in 2012. Without referring to the KKK alliance he has been associated with, Ruto said youthful leaders from Rift Valley, Western, Coast and North Eastern had agreed to work together.
He said Bare Shill and Aden Nduale were working in the North Eastern region, Tourism minister Najib Balala and Kazungu Kembi at the Coast, Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa and Housing minister Soita Shitanda Western while he was handling the Rift Valley. “I have come to request Wamalwa to competed with me and if he wins, I will support him and if I win, he supports me,” said Ruto who was addressing a rally at Navakhlo in Kakamega at the weekend.
Ruto first hinted at a possible alliance between Rift Valley and Western region at the same venue during the burial of former Labour minister Newton Kulundu two years ago.
Ruto’s disclosure appeared to be in line with Balala’s announcement two weeks ago that he and other Coast MPs are planning to form a political party for the region. “We in Rift Valley and other provinces are ready. We are waiting for Western region to organize itself,” he added.
Ruto asked politicians to avoid discussing "The Hague and instead think of improving the lives of Kenyans," During the meeting, Ruto was accompanied by Wamalwa, Shitanda, Kembi and former Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala.
Shitanda said he would support Wamalwa because he was the only serious presidential candidate from Western. “We have about eight presidential hopefuls in Western but they behave like they want to get opinions from other people before running for presidency,” added Shitanda.
Shitanda who is the Malava MP said leaders should have dialogued to solve the dilemma on the ICC cases instead of rejoicing for the tribulations of others.
