SECURITY BEEFED IN SOUTH MUGIRANGO

The Government has beefed up security in South Mugirango constituency ahead of Thursday by-election as several leaders pitched tent in the area to campaign for their candidates.

According to the Nyanza Provincial Police boss (PPO) Njue Njagi, security has been tightened as the campaigns reach climax.

"Security agencies have been instructed to monitor the situation and especially those who may cause a breach of the peace during the campaigns and on the material day" he said.

Njue, was speaking to the press in his office in Kisumu.

With only two days to go, Prime Minister Raila Odinga and several other leaders including Higher Education Minister William Ruto traversed the constituency to woo voters.

The Premier who is the party leader led at least ten sitting Members of Parliament on Sunday including three cabinet Ministers to drum support for the ODM party candidate Ibrahim Ochoi.

Ochoi and the former Assistant Minister for Trade running on People's Democratic Party candidate, Omingo Magara are the top contenders.

Ruto in a show of defiance has thrown his weight behind Magara who fell out with his party and defected to PDP.

Candidates battling against Magara besides Ochoi include Manson Oyongo (Ford-P), Ezekiel Okengo (Narc-K), Abaga Sagero (NVP), Rashid Miyonga (PPK), Ezekiel Okemwa (Kenda), Joash Ombati Kengere (LPK), Masta Bw'Ondara (KSC), Robert Mbaka (Safina) and John Ondora (Kanu).
